» Honest Question- Christians: could serious, scientific evidence hypothetically make you question your beliefs?

the one major thing that worries me about Christianity is that it seems to run on faith alone. I'm probably wrong about this, and I was wondering- hypothetically, could a piece of scientific evidence opposing a biblical belief cause you to question parts of the Bible, or would it automatically be viewed as a test of faith by God? Honest question. Not saying I have any evidence- just asking whether or not it would matter. Above all I am not bashing anyone's religion! just curious : ) Thanks! -ATo be perfectly honest about it, yes it would.Look up the term "Christian Apologetics." It will show you that Christianity is not based on blind faith, as many believe. While you may not agree with some of the things, it will show you...... - 2009-07-04

» What is your favorite summer time fruit that you can't get year round?

I love Watermelon~ I wish I could get it year round. It is so refreshing Grapes and all berries are a favorite too.I love watermelon too- the yellow meat ones especially. I have a really hard time finding them though. Usually I have to go to the farmer's market to get one, but it's worth it. Peaches are another summertime favorite. Where I live in Alabama we have awesome peach orchards. I usually get enough to freeze some for other times of the year when they aren't in season.strawberries, blueberries, raspberries..yeah watermelon too...... - 2009-07-04

» China is the home of bird flu

China is the home of bird flu 11 February 2006 From New Scientist Print Edition. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/health/mg18925383.100A MASSIVE analysis of flu viruses has finally confirmed what everyone suspected: the H5N1 virus has been circulating in Chinese poultry for over a decade. Yi Guan at Shantou University, China, and his colleagues studied samples from 13,000 migratory birds and 50,000 market poultry in south-east China between January 2004 and June 2005. They found H5N1 in around 2 per cent of apparently healthy ducks and geese, and also in some chickens. Most importantly, the virus's genes formed geographic clusters that differed slightly between the Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Hunan and Yunnan, suggesting that...... - 2009-07-04

» xbmc/skin accessing network sources

I've been testing the latest releases/mediastream skin. I've noticed that both PM3 +Mediastream seem to access the network sources (like to verify the files or something - not sure of the correct wording) before loading the library view (Both movies and TVShows). This has the negative effect of spinning up all the drives on my unRAID server (NOT something I want). Is this usual behaviour? (This was in 15026T3CH & MS 0.87) Perhaps it is a one off thing when the library first loads - yet I've had this happen several times? I don't seem to see this using Rev 9834 (an old version I know, but waiting for the stable Atlantis release B4 upgrading). I'm trying to understand what is happening - and if this is a xbmc thing or a skin thing ...... - 2009-07-04

» Which is more painful for girls?whether scolding or hitting on their butt?

which is painfulBoth would hurt them really easily. Girls are sensitive and when you scold or change your tone towards them, they will get upset and be hurt mentally. Hitting their butt, hurts them physically. But I would have to say that BOTH hurt painfully. They can both be painful, but hitting has a lot of bad side-effects. For one thing, the more you do it, the less the child trusts you. For another, the child learns that hitting is a good way to solve problems. Scolding also has it problems...there's a great book called "how to talk so kids will listen, and listen so kids will talk." I read it a few years ago, and loved it. » How do the Germans view themselves?

I was staying with a German family a few weeks ago and they told me that the Germans feel they can't be proud of their country because of all the bad things that have happened there - the Third Reich, for example, and the separation of Germany in 1949. I was wondering whether this is really true of all Germans - does the memory of Germany's past still play a big part in modern German society and attitudes? Thanks for your help. The memory of the past will always play a role in German society. We have, for example, laws that forbid showing the swastika or the Hitler salute in public, or denial of the holocaust ("revisionism"). It is a returning topic of debate whether these laws should be abolished, as they basically contradict fr...... - 2009-07-04

I can get a filter on the kit lens with no trouble, but the ones I have don't seem to fit the Sigma lens (even though I got the one that Amazon had listed for "better together"). What should I be using to protect my telephoto lense?I purchased the canon haze filter then fits on the kit lens, works perfectly fine for me. Is the filter screwing on to tight? They're difference sizes... You gotta buy one that is bigger. the kit lens is 58mm.this thread is useless without filter measurements.Nevermind, I got it working. Older elevators had to be started and stopped manually as they had to be controlled to stop in an exact spot each time. Thanks!Have you looked into the extension tubes? They are a really cheap alternative and work very well. What makes a good macro lens? Sharpness and reproduction ratio. True macro lenses offer 1:1 or sometimes even better ratios and are fixed focal lengths. The other question then is do you want to spook your subjects? A 50mm macro lens would give you greater depth of field but the downside is to get 1:1 reproduction you need to get closer to your subject. » How to increase balance when kicking?

When I am doing some kicks I have trouble keeping my balance. What should I do to fix this? Do I need more abdominal muscles or leg muscles? Thanks in advanceThe key to balance in kicking is no different than any other position. You must keep your head directly above your groin to maintain balance. Now, some people try to lean back with their head to use it as a counterweight of their foot, or extend their arms, as if tightrope walking. However, they are actually throwing themselves off balance in the process. If you are kicking so high that you must lean back, the problem is in flexibility and muscle strength. I am developing a Web 2.0 (read: ajax-heavy application) and I would like to know if several various services are available as either: A)- A real XML Service API, such as the way Google's Web API is (although please not with a daily limit like Google's) B)- HTTP pages that are easily browsable/parseable/regular/predictable enough in their responses that I COULD make requests against them with XMLHTTPRequest and use a simple enough set of rules to parse the HTTP response into the bits I am interested in. » help - strange connector port on old Sony camera

Okay - here's another question you all might be able to help me with. I just received an old Sony DSC-S85 that I bought used. It came with an instruction manual and I have also downloaded a manual from the net. Neither one of them make mention of this port... and I can't figure out what it's for. Apologies for the cellphone pics - I'm at work right now. It's located just above the memory card slot - it takes memory sticks of course - and from it's size I was hoping it would be a slot for a memory stick duo card. It has a little black cover and is not labeled. It is also located just below the reset button. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n186/adam_photo777/phone%20pics/1189207046.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/album...... - 2009-07-04

Why can?t transpiration measured in a cuvette be used to evaluate total canopy transpiration? If I had to guess, it would be that capillary action in plants is different from capillary action in a glass cuvette. If I don't know what it is?You dont need to find it. In the most unexpected scenario....it'll be delivered at your doorstep. Even before you realized that you are missing something. i think what makes us is more of a spiritual question, rather than a materialistic one, obviously. Some philosophers believe we are always trying to achieve perfectionism, but we can never be exactly perfect. As a person who believes that there is a reason for everything, I would say think about your life and improving it, and see if it actually is improving and why. ∫ (lower limit: C) (x sin x - y) dx + (x - y²) dy, where C is the triangle in the (x, y) plane with vertices (0, 0), (1, 1), and (2, 0). Explain your work. For your reference, the answer is 2. Thank you! :)According to Green's Theorem, the integral of L dx + M dy around a closed curve is equal to the double integral of (∂M/∂x - ∂L/∂y) dA where I expect dA is equal to dx dy. In this case, M = x - y², and so ∂M/∂x = 1 L = x sinx - y, so ∂L/∂y = -1 Thus we have ∫∫(1-(-1))dA over that triangle = ∫∫ 2 dA = 2 ∫∫dA and since the area of the triangle is 0.5*2*1, the answer is indeed 2. ...... - 2009-07-04

» What does it mean? i dreamt that ...?

I am living on the top of the huge building, on the roof, and when sleeping there might fall off, as there are no walls or fences...and i come down to the ground with the fire escape ladder, which is a long way down...once i am down, it's all green grass and i am a best selling writer, cause i write the most beautiful novels about universe, as i know things that other people dont...what does it all mean? I have read a book on the meaning of dreams. And dreams where you think you are going to fall from a height is usually a sign of you having a lot of insecurity's in your life. You want to get somewhere, yet you are afraid of failing. Along the lines of that. Escaping from the place shows how you can overcome your fears and fulfil ...... - 2009-07-04

» Email list or Blog for profit?

I was Wondering if i should make an email list or a blog for profit. i was thinking of having a one page website offering a free product for signing up for the free email list. i already have a self hosted blog but i might switch to email list because of the ease compared to blogging, all i have to do is send out newsletters. Furthermore, with email list subscribers, its almost like having permanent unique visitors, let me know your suggestions thanks.I personally think you can do both at the same time. A blog with many visitors will add and keep more subscribers for your newslettersBoth methods can be used to make money...... - 2009-07-04

» Kodak DX4530 Digital Camera - Recommendations?

Hello, I'm new here and this is my first post. :) I'm still learning about photography, I really enjoy creative picture-taking and would like to progress to a better digital camera with better resolution. (5.0 MP) I'm thinking of buying a Kodak DX4530 Easyshare digital camera and wondered if anyone uses it and what they think - here is a link to its specifications. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=1155&pq-locale=en_US I'm thinking of going for it because it's retailing at £199 (about $300 or so) so seems good value with lots of features. However as I'm interested in more experimental shooting with natural lighting, etc, is it a good choice? Many thanks in advance.I may be biased because I own one, b...... - 2009-07-04

» Dont want to feed the trolls but...

This is a discussion I need in this forum cuz I found it unfair in some assesments! http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=261945&cc=3888 Flame away!Hmmmm, paella is good, but nothing beats pasta. An interesting article, I have to say. The only thing I found unfair - completely false actually - was his claim that Zidane only "truly blossomed" after he got to Madrid. Are you kidding me? Granted, he hadn't won a European Cup until moving there, but he'd been a finalist twice (three times if you count the UEFA Cup final with Bordeaux), won two Scudettos, won the World Cup and European championship with France, was twice FIFA's player of the year .... need I go on? He hadn't "blossomed"?! Give me a friggin' break.well said Sue.. I agree ...... - 2009-07-04
